Parents in every generation seem to worry about the world in which their children will live. Looking at the current rapid technological developments and the destruction of traditional values, today's parents are no different and worry about the future of the next generation as well. What can the parents do for their descendants at this time?
When the Israelites returned from captivity in Babylon and were still suffering from internal and external problems, Ezra taught the Bible to the Israelites and wrote the Chronicles. About 500 years after Ezra's time, Christians in Asia suffered from the persecution of the Roman Empire and the attacks from heretical teachings. At that time, the apostle John wrote five letters including Revelation to teach them the correct way to live. This tells us that only God's Word can lead the next generation in the wisest path for their futures.
What should we do to make our children live righteously in the future? It is to live according to God's Word. Indeed, it is clear that the ultimate legacy which Christian parents can pass onto the next generation is the Word of God.
‘But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus’ (2 Timothy 3:14~15).
